Special Economic Zones = Special Insider Benefits

GUELPH — Mike Schreiner issued the following statement in response to the Ford government’s release of the Special Economic Zones regulations:
“These regulations solidify Doug Ford’s unprecedented Bill 5 power grab.
The Premier has once again chosen to ignore First Nations, planning experts and the people of Ontario. He is plowing ahead with no-law zones that will only benefit the wealthy and well-connected, or so-called “trusted proponents.”
Bottom line: Special Economic Zones = Special Insider Benefits.
Special economic zones will open the door to backroom deals and insider giveaways, while Indigenous rights, environmental protections, worker rights and local democracy suffer. More power is concentrated in the hands of a single minister.
The Ontario Greens will continue to stand with First Nations and people across the province until the Ford government reverses this destructive and anti-democratic legislation.”
